A heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota is taking shape just steps from Anfield, as mural artists begin immortalising the beloved Liverpool forward on a Sybil Road wall.

The mural, led by renowned street art collective MurWalls, begins with a bold, black canvas and the powerful white inscription:

“FOREVER 20” — echoing the words of Virgil van Dijk, who described Jota as “a champion forever, number 20 forever” following the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Jota and his brother, André Silva, in Spain on July 3.

Before Jota’s image is painted, fans are being invited to contribute their own messages.

YNWA” and “RIP Jota, thanks for the memories” now adorn the space — painted in rainbow colours against the dark background, radiating both grief and gratitude.

The tribute is part of a wider effort involving artists Paul Curtis and John Culshaw.

His heartfelt words captured the city’s mood: “This mural will be for the fans, from the fans, and painted by a fan.”

The response was overwhelming — the £2,000 target was surpassed in just 35 minutes, with over £19,700 raised.

At Kirkby’s AXA Training Centre, scarves and flowers mark the players’ entrance — silent echoes of the love Jota inspired.

For Liverpool fans, this mural is more than art.

It’s a promise that Diogo Jota will forever be part of Anfield — in heart, in memory, in every matchday walk down Sybil Road.
